Based On The Left Under The Concept Of Universal Design, Product Design To Explore

As universal design concept continues to develop, numerous manufacturers and designers implantatc this concept into their works. Even so, in nearly all cases affected by the ’people-oriented’ concept, their works will naturally design for right-handers. The left-handers, who just accounted10%of the world’s population, have long been ignored their special need of deferent physical characteristics. In such circumstances, left-handers have to compare miles compromise, to change to change their dominant hand or to use the unfamiliar products. In this case, left-handers would probably work at lower efficiency, further more, they would be hurt at work. Thus, left-handers urgently need equal right for using products as right-handers’.In order to comply with the humanized design and universal design theory and to take into account the different physical and psychological needs of left-handers in the process of R&D and production, the thesis about the analysis and research of left-handers, which based on universal design, will elaborate in several aspects which included the implication and culture of ’left’, the usual sidedness phenomenon and the formation of handedness, etc.. The thesis analyzes the inconvenient products for left-handers then introduces the special products for left-handers and elaborates how to consider the physical characteristics of handedness more meticulously, based on the universal design concept and the using way of products so that design products fulfilled demands of handedness without losing its original function.
