Developmental Research Of The Relationship Between Parent-Child Attachment And Adult Attachment

Attachment theory has been used by the developmental psychologists to study social adaptation and intimate relationship, the results have been applied to the fields of parent-child education, psychological counseling and treatment, and other fields. Both parent-child attachment and adult attachment are very important attachment patterns, but until recently, most of the work seldomly adapt social personality orientation, and few research on their relationship. Besides, most of the work on the content of working model has relied on the explicit, self-report measures, there are short of reliable and valid assessments of implicit attachment-related representations as well as few studies systematically compare the conditions among different ages.This study used IPPA, ECR as the explicit measurement tool, as well as Implicit Association Test(IAT)as implicit measurement tool, and test nearly580people, which provides empirical research for the internal working model of attachment, and improve the implicit measurement tool for the implicit attachment test. The main findings are:(1) On explicit level, men and women exist some differences in the parent-child attachment, the communication between women and mothers of middle school group and university group are significantly better than men, while in middle-aged group, men do significantly better communication with his father compared with women;(2) On implicit level, in middle school group, the level of parent attachment is above intimate others. While in university group and middle-aged group, attachment center gradually shift to intimate others; in middle school group, the self-mother IAT effect is bigger than in university group and middle-aged group.(3) To some degree, parent-child attachment representation can predict adult attachment representation, and there is a certain correlation between parent-child attachment representation and adult attachment representation in explicit and implicit level. The father-child communication, mother-child communication is positively related to attachment anxiety, while father-child trust, mother-child trust is negatively related to attachment avoidance. Those who have a good parent-child attachment grade are more likely to become a security type in adult attachment(4)In all age groups, those who are security attachment type don’t have significantly difference between compatible and incompatible tasks, which is consistent with the hypothesis; meanwhile, in some age groups, fear, avoidance, devoted types are consistent with the hypothesis.(5) IAT is valid implicit attachment measuring method.
