When studying modern chinese vocabulary, it is indispensable for us to research kinshipterminology. Because kinship terminology is very important and it is one part of the basic words whichwe usually use. It is a key bond to maintain the family and social life; It not only contains rich chineseculture charactristics but also important basis for us to know the national customs and ideologies as wellas a difficult point for the teaching of chinese as a foreign language.China and Vietnam are close neighbours with adjoining mountians and rivers. Because of thespecial geographical location, historical and cultural background, the two conturies have frequent culturecommunications and have absorbed each others’ customs and cultural ideologies since ancient time. While languages and cultures are interdependant and interactional, kinship terminology between Chinaand Vietnam are the products which the two countries’ profound culture maintain for several millenniums.Due to the complicated and huge numbers of kinship terminology systems between China and Vietnam aswell as long-term culture communication, it leads to many common means of the language expression anddifferentiations, which have caused confusions and misunderstandings to the learners of Vietnam. So it isessential to systematically, profoundly and extensively compare and analysis Kinship Terminologybetween China and Vietnam from various aspects and levels. On the basis of reseash fruits of predecessors, firstly, I shall definite the kinship terminology aswell as the revalent conceptions. Secondly, I will clearly study from the aspect of kinship terminologyword-building and point out the different means of laguage experssion which are caused by culturalthoughts, life style, geographic environment and histrical changes because of some different tinysituations of the two peoples. Then, I will deeply compare the Chinese and Vietnamese Kinshipterminology, finding the differences between the twos and the reasons it caused and concluding thediversities and commons. As a result, I found that the kinship terms of Vietnamese also has categorykinship terms except the descriptive kinship terms that the Chinese has. Most composition of morphemesof Vietnamese kinship terms can be used alone. Whatever the male to female ratio,Paternal andmaternal marriage proportion and the clan and non-relative proportion is, all of them are obviously morebalanced. The quantity factors without distinguishing attribute are numerous, while the Chinese take onthe unbalanced phenomena and all the morphemes can not be used alone. In terms of the internal struture, the kinship terms of Vietamese tend to simplify and widen the system while the Chinese descriptivekinship terms’system tends to be more complicated. Moreover, due to Confucianism and clan systemhave different degree of influence to China and Vietanam, the characteristics of male superiority, insideand outside the closeness in the kinship terms of Sino-Vietanam, to some extent, are different. On this studying basis, I hope that the fruits of this research could be applied to the learners ofVietnam who should adjust the learning methods in this field and put forward advanced suggestions thatwe are considered on the chinese kinship terminology teaching. Thus, to some extent, this thesis cancontribute to the Chinese learning and the teching of chinese as a foreign language.
