| The Routledge Handbook of Sign Language Pedagogy by Russell Scott Rosen in2020 is an academic work related to sign language teaching.It has compiled teaching,curriculum design and evaluation,and is of great reference significance for sign language teaching in China.This report selects chapter three to chapter five of the source text as translation materials,and these three chapters mainly cover the cutting-edge viewpoints of sign language professionals on sign language teaching.The selected source text is characterized by a large number of pronouns and abstract nouns,and a large number of long sentences with an average length of 24.7 words,and the strong logicality of the text.Guided by Vermeer’s Skopos theory,this report summarizes the translation techniques adopted for different translation purposes when translating texts of sign language pedagogy.The purpose of this translation practice is to accurately convey the source text information to the people related to sign language pedagogy based on the cultural environment of the target readers,in order to provide them with sign language teaching strategies and methods.As far as the Skopos rule is concerned,the translation techniques of reiteration,omission and addition are used to solve the translation problems of pronouns and nominal phrases,so as to achieve the translation purpose of accurately conveying information.Reiteration is the most frequently used translation technique to solve the translation problem of the pronoun “it”.As far as the coherence rule is concerned,the reporter solves the translation problems of abstract nouns and long difficult sentences by means of translation techniques of conversion and inversion.The technique of inversion is most frequently used,which adjusts the word order to achieve the purpose of intra-textual coherence.As far as the fidelity rule is concerned,the reporter solves the translation problems of prepositions,proper nouns and complex sentences through the translation techniques of division,negation and annotation.Division is the most frequently used translation technique,through which the reporter adjusts sentence structure and clarify logical relationships to achieve inter-textual coherence.The purpose of this report is to explore the application of Skopos Theory in the techniques adopted for different translation purposes according to the Skopos rule,the coherence rule and the fidelity rule,so as to provide some references for the Chinese translation of sign language pedagogy texts. |
