Wei Xuqu, one of the Eight Liuzhou Poets, is an important member of Liuzhou poetics school. In1648, he took the imperial exam and won the title provincial graduate, and then appointed an officer in Chengdu. Influenced by Szechwan and Chongqing culture, he named himself Qingcheng and his three poetry collections The Qingcheng Poetry after the famous mountain Qingcheng. Four hundred and five of his poetry were included in The All Qing Poetry Collection (1644~1722). Wang Shizhen maintained in his A Collection of Yi Sheng Chu that the Liuzhou boom of literature pursuit among the southeast the best is due to the push-on of Zi Gu, Zi Chun, Zi Geng and other literati. He is quite unique and outstanding among poets of Liuzhou poetics school for his half graceful and restrained and half bold writing style. Having a view on the researching state of Wei Xuequ and poetic study of Qing period, basing on the researching material of his lifetime events, poetry exchange and traveling, this paper focuses on analyzing the characters of Wei Xuequ and his poetry. And based on his poetry, this paper also inquire the folk custom and regional custom as a starting point in further research on the early Qing social custom.Introduction is briefly about the position and value of Wei Xuequ’s poetry in the poetry world during Qing period and the researching state and method of it.The first chapter combs Wei Xuequ’s lifetime events and poetry creation, based on County History of Jiashan and at the same time, focusing on the long tradition of family learning, reaches the conclusion that Wei’s family is a productive one and has big influence on his poetry creation.The second chapter mainly analyzes the influence the Liuzhou poetry school has on Wei Xuequ’s poetry creation and probes into the fact that in the process of poetry exchange with Cao Erkan, Wei’s view on poetry creation has been reformed.The third chapter decodes the social customs, lying in Wei Xuequ’s poetry, of celebrating the traditional festivals and the climate and other natural phenomenon of seasons, and the description of which is overall panoramas of Qing’s social life. His descriptions of seasons are refreshingly lucid and unadorned and descriptions of traditional festival include amount of social customs.The forth chapter elaborates the influence of Szechwan culture on Wei Xuequ and his poetry creation by analyzing the description of Szechwan mountains, social customs and ancient literati. Wei’s taking-in of Szechwan culture enriches his writing material and style, leading to his unique and outstanding state in Qing poetry field.
