The21st century has seen a fast economic development in China and a steady rise of China’s position in the world. This has placed China under a global spotlight with scrutiny from the world as never before. Therefore, it is of vital importance to introduce a real China to the world with an aim to build a good image of China in the international arena and rid Western people of their prejudice towards and misunderstanding of China. C-E (Chinese-English) news translation, as a means of transmitting messages of China to the outside world, provides people with new insight into seeing a changing China and serves as a bridge for cultural exchanges between China and the Western countries. This report is based on the author’s practice of C-E news translation in the CCTV News Content Translation Project of the School of Foreign Languages and Literature at Shandong University, which covers such subjects as economy, science and technologies, culture, sports and environment. It consists of four parts. In chapter one, the author briefly introduces the source, significance and framework of the report. Chapter two mainly describes the translation task, consisting of the project requirements and the features of the CCTV news text. Chapter three is devoted to the case analysis of the news translation, in which four main translation methods are analyzed based on Eugene A. Nida’s dynamic equivalence translation theory. Chapter four concludes the report by pointing out the limitations of the report and suggestions for further discussion. |
