Comparative sentence is a frequently-used language phenomenon, and is one ofthe most important cognitive activities, the same concept of comparison carriesdifferent forms of expression in English, Chinese and Japanese. This paper makes acontrast between the comparative sentences in these three languages, with the methodof comparison and description. It is divided into six parts, the main content is asfollows:The first chapter is the introduction, divided into two parts. The first part is thereason and significance of choosing the topic, and also the research methods taken.The second part introduced the related research of comparative sentences in details,both domestic and aboard. From the aspect of language contrast, there are contrasts ofcomparative sentences both between languages in the world and dialects in China.While from the point of language typology, there are also research situation aboutcomparative sentence in English and Japanese, which provides important instructivesuggestions to the following study.The second chapter talks about three forms of comparative sentences in Chinese,English and Japanese. In this chapter, three types of comparative sentences are listed:equal comparison sentences, the comparative constructions and extremelycomparative sentences.And some vogue definitions are ranged in this chapter. The following three parts dealwith the features of comparative sentences and their reasons to take the form in Chinese,English and Japanese.The third chapter is the comparison of equal comparison sentences amongChinese, English and Japanese, divided into three parts, which introduces the formstaken of equal comparison sentences in these three languages. From the aspect oflanguage contrast, this chapter focuses on the basic sentence patterns, the briefexpressions, the negative forms and the component of each part.The forth chapter is the expression of the comparative constructions amongChinese, English and Japanese, also divided into three parts. Firstly, the category of the comparative constructions is defined, then in order to help understand thedifference of their forms in these three languages, this chapter also provides a lot ofexamples besides a thorough description. Among them, the degree of the comparisonresults in Japanese is also referred in this chapter, which is not mentioned in the othertwo languages.The fifth chapter is the expression form of the extremely comparative sentencesamong Chinese, English and Japanese. They are respectively discussed in three parts.This chapter focuses on the basic sentence patterns, the negative forms and thecorresponding sentence transformations, and some other related expressions are alsolisted.The sixth chapter is the conclusion. With all the analysis above, we can get thefinal argument of this paper. It makes a comprehensive summary, and states thesignificance it has to the study of comparative sentences and to the research of secondlanguage teaching.
