Since the debut of Tianwen Zhu, she was called as Ailing Zhang’s successor. When the published of her second novel Wuyan, the icon that Zhu pursuing is consider as Italo Calvino. This argument was advanced by Tangnuo. Zhu is agrees to this statement, she is also mentioned about the value of digression which had been told in the’Six Memos for the Next Millennium’ of Calvino in her novel. Zhu honestly declare that value of digression is used to represent the theme of escape from times in Wuyan. But Calvino is not the only signature in Wuyan. Jorge Luis Borges has often appearances in the novel, and the Borges famous piece The Garden of Forking Paths is easily related to the value of digression. This study is trying to link up the values of the modern literature which from the idea of Calvino and Borges’s reference, as the criteria to analyze Wuyan and trying to find out the connection between Wuyan with these two great masters, and the imagery of the alchemist in the novel will also be focus analyzing.
