With his philosophical, profound and timeless writing,Borges creates a mysterious world of literary labyrinths for his readers. The labyrinth, apart from being a literary imagery and narrative technique,is also Borges’ "way of feeling and living".The labyrinths he writes about therefore have a dual meaning of narrative aesthetics and philosophical reflection on life. The main part of the thesis is divided into four chapters, the first of which is devoted to the specific presentation of the labyrinth in Borges’ fictional texts.Borges’ writing on labyrinths extends from the figurative space to the dimensions of time, dream and self, and in his view, the many uncertainties and contingencies surrounding us are all elements of labyrinths. The second chapter analyses the characteristics of Borges’ labyrinth writing from the perspective of narrative and aesthetics,in which Borges breaks through the traditional narrative techniques of fiction through "vacancy","openness" and "collage".Borges’ narrative techniques, such as "vacancy","openness" and "collage",break through the traditional writing stereotypes of novels and create an aesthetic space characterised by a labyrinth of real and unreal, openness and infinite cycles. In the third chapter, the connotation of labyrinth writing is analysed in the context of existentialism. The labyrinth is no longer an object that is external to the experience of life;it is an existential dilemma that is commonly felt by modern people.Through his labyrinth writing,Borges intends to reveal the nature of the world and the situation of life, showing the contradictory and paradoxical nature of life. This is a deeper excavation of the existential meaning of the labyrinth, from its appearance to its core. The fourth chapter reveals the significance of Borges’ labyrinth writing from the perspective of modernity.Borges, based on the predicament of human existence, describes the state of existence and death of man in the labyrinth, with the aim of finding a way to break out of the labyrinth;in his view, the search for the exit of the labyrinth is also a search for the essence of life and self.In his view, the search for the exit of the labyrinth is also a search for the essence of life and the self.By achieving self-discovery and self-validation,man acquires the original meaning of existence, and thus life achieves a breakthrough from the labyrinth.
