Teaching design considers the internal and externalelements of language teaching, and plans the way to put intopractice. It involves the plan for teaching, the practice, theevaluating and the management. In the work of teaching Chineseas a foreign language, teaching design is as important as itinvolves the efficiency of studying and the improvement oflanguage ability.This thesis tries to design a course for teaching Chineseas a foreign language. The content of this course is to knowand appreciate a character named Zhao Yun of one Chinese classicnovel The Romance of Three Kingdoms.This thesis includes four chapters.Chapter one is an introduction which explains the meaningand reason of this paper. It also describes the situation of present study.Chapter two is a text designed by myself. The main articlecalled Zhao Yun Rescues The Child Lord At Dangyang, which isa part of chapter41of The Romance of Three Kingdoms. All theillustrations, language points and exercises according thisarticle are designed by me.Chapter three explains the theory of the design of my text.It also expounds the main process and content of teachingdesign.Chapter four illustrates the process and content ofteaching this text in detail. We design four lessons to teachingthis text. The aim of teaching includes three levels. Level onerequires students manage some new Chinese words and grammars.Level two requires students appreciate the character and theart of Chinese classic novel. Level three requires studentsunderstand Chinese culture about the rules of Chinese names inhistory and today.
