Female college students are in a stage of mate selection and marriage. While studying,they also face love, marriage and emotional problems. Spouse-selection is an importantpremise for love and marriage. It affects the future life of the female students. With thedevelopment of economy and society, the improvement of women’s social status, they havemore and more voice in social and family. They also have an advantage to choosing a mate.With the development of society, female mate choices have the new characteristics of thetimes. This study explores the present situation of spouse-selection of current female collegestudents, and married female teacher’s views and changes in spouse-selection.This paper includes two parts:The first part is the questionnaire survey. In this study, on the basis of the reference topast literature, combined with open interviews, thirty-six items were selected, andspouse-selection standard questionnaire of college students and teachers were formed. On twogroups of investigation, the results show that: Female college students and teachers pay moreattention to quality character, physical condition, personal ability and emotional factors. Thetwo groups are less concerned about family situation and appearance. The average score ofstudents in personal ability, personal quality, social status, housekeeping skill are higher thanthose of teachers. The average score of teachers in economic status, physical characteristics,physical condition are higher than those of college students.The second part is depth interview. This study selected two love experiences of femalestudents and two married female teachers. The four women were approximately one hour indepth interviews. The interviews were tape recorded into verbatim. The analyses of interviewdata were grounded theory-oriented. The results show that: Female college students andteachers are very focused on individual condition in spouse-selection. They do not attachimportance to the appearance of male. They have each emphasize particularly on the specificrequirements of quality character and economic capacity. Love and marriage experiencesinfluence their own standards.Through the above research, the paper obtains the following conclusions:(1) The spouse-selection of female college students and teachers are more rational reality; (2) Female college students pay more attention to personal ability, personal quality, socialstatus, housekeeping skill. Female teachers pay more attention to economic status, physicalcharacteristics, physical condition;(3) Love experiences have no effect on spouse-selection of female college students;(4) Female college students and teachers focus on the quality character of the opposite sex,but the specific content is different;(5) Female college students tend to focus on the hidden potential of the opposite sex.Female teachers tend to dominant strength of the opposite sex;(6) Female college students and teachers pay attention to both compatible andpsychological needs.
