Studies On Theatre Industry Agglomeration In Shanghai

Shanghai culture industry has developed well recently with added value increasingly rising, and itstill keeps the proportion balance of local GDP (Gross Domestic Production). But, different industrydevelops quite differently in various cultural industries. That is to say, peripheral industry developsmost vastly, while core industry is not as ideal as expected in economic presentation. Modern DramaValley is the creation in which Shanghai theatre resource advantages is integrated, cultural industryoverall layout and structure are optimized to establish cultural industry cluster featured with regionalcharacteristics and to explore theatre industry cluster development.Modern Drama Valley is the theatre industry cluster programs created in Jing’an District ofShanghai, covering area of0.5KMs wide and3KMs long, with distance from Nanjing West Roadto Huashan Road as the axis, and Yan’an Middle Road running through, from Zhengning Road inthe west, Chengdu North Road in the east. In this area and around there are many art performanceplaces, artist studios, art institutes and the top art academies in Shanghai. Ever since2009when itwas established, a series of practices have been taken, which shows a little success originally.However, many problems and real difficulties also need to be solved.As the world-known theatre industry cluster, Broadway has directly presented its hugecommercial potential and extraordinary brand appeal with theatres concentrated, considerableeconomy contribution rate and audiences mainly consisting of tourists. Its success originates fromconstant creativeness, reformed management tactics, and continuous culture resources inBroadway. Broadway’s success, therefore, illustrates that theatre resource cluster contributes topromoting theatre industry specialization and scale expansion, and reflects the symbioticrelationship of theatre industry cluster development and urban construction, which providesfavorable references for the development of Modern Drama Valley.The author in this essay, therefore, explores the future ideal development model andproposes current key work and reforms for Modern Drama Valley so as to present limitedsuggestions for research on theatre industry cluster，basing on current development of culturalindustry and combining with superior culture resources, favorable development environment, andurgently real requirements in Shanghai, together with the reference from successful Broadway.
