The food packaging is closely related to our life. It appears in our life since the appearance of human society. With the development of both economic and human society, food packaging plays not only a role of protecting products, but also a role of "seller". Apart from this, it also spreads a kind of culture. Since the Culture connotation is vital to the food packaging, we must design the food packaging based on the advantage of our own traditional culture which can develop a way of packaging with Chinese characteristicsMany philosophy ideas, aesthetic views and auspicious implies were contained in the Chinese traditional designs. It reflects the the ancients’thoughts’essence. The Chinese traditional design supplies much Cultural meaning for food packaging. However, the food packaging design in China seldom reflects our own culture. On the contrary, it reflects too much about foreign design ideas. For this phenomenon, it is worthy of being deeply thought.This article mainly describe it in two aspects. One is the development of Chinese packaging and the other is the types of traditional designs. This article analyse the meaning of Chinese traditional designs which is considered to put into the food packaging as an art form. During the time of putting traditional designs into food packaging, we should both base it on our own culture and learn from the foreign experience. Only in this way, can we make our food packing lively and full of Chinese characteristics. In the end, the article makes a prediction of the development of food packaging. Based on the traditional designs, we should also learn the advantages of foreign packaging. At the same time, we must get the principle of "people-oriented", and pursuit humanistic design, and green design, which made the food packaging not only a packaging of products but also a way of life.
