With the development of the area of teaching Chinese as a second language, thecompilation of the Chinese language textbooks has became more and more important in China.In the recent years, some experts suggest that we should cooperate with the local experts fromthe press while compiling the textbooks meanwhile set up a series of standard of it. They alsosuggest that the Chinese language textbooks should be localized since the main point ofeducation is “what do the students need”, not “what we give them”.Learn from the above viewpoints of the experts, the author could know that at present daysthe tendency of compiling the Chinese language textbooks is to make them localized.The author carries out a research on the localization of6main English and Chineselanguage textbooks---“New Concept English”,“Pass Cambridge Business EnglishCertificate”,“900Useful English Sentences”,“New Practical Chinese”,“Business Chinese forSuccess”,“Conversational Chinese301”. They are3different types of textbooks, and theauthor tries to analyze the necessity of the localization of all the3types of Chinese languagetextbooks and which kinds of them are more suitable to be localized and which are not.
