This research mainly focus on the impact of mass media on left-behind teenagers’ego-identity by questionnaire method, with a interdisciplinary perspective betweencommunication and ego-identity. According to the analysis of ego-identity’s sevendimensions, it founds that the media that using most and longest time are television andextracurricular book, and most using motivation are the rituality, however, it won’t get theright respond. The using of mass media has big effects on the left-behind teenagers in theage of12-19, especially for their time perspective and self-awareness. The result are asfollows.1) Age has influence over most dimensions of left-behind teenagers’ ego-identity, butgender just impacts on one dimension, self-awareness.2) The using time for broadcasting, newspaper and Internet have impacts onleft-behind teenagers’ ego-identity, while television, magazine, extracurricular book andmobilephone don’t.3) The using frequency for broadcasting, magazine, newspaper, Internet andextracurricular book have impacts on left-behind teenagers’ ego-identity, while televisionand mobilephone don’t.4) The preference for TV news and extracurricular books related to study and youthlives have effects on left-behind left-behind teenagers’ ego-identity.5) There is no effect on left-behind teenagers’ ego-identity for newspaper’s usingmotivations, however, the rituality motivation for TV,broadcast and Internet has moreeffect than instrumental motivation onleft-behind teenagers’ ego-identity.
