2008, the television series "Ugly Girl Wudi", broadcasted by Hunan TV exclusively, defeated all of its rivals and become the year of champion with a very high audience rating even it received lots of negative comments. Totally different from the traditional teleplay, in which the heroine often owns the good character of temperate, kind, courteous, thrifty and magnanimous, it tells a story of a ugly looking, clumsy feature, young lady named"Wudi Lin"strives hard for career with her intelligence. Through this drama, "Ugly Girl" Lin's image has been remembered by the mass audience.Look throughout on those frequently appears in major media figures, such as "Sister Lotus" and Luo Yufeng, easily we can find the"Ugly"has permeated in the mass media. With its unique aesthetic landscape, "Ugly Girl" phenomenon has occupied an irreplaceable place in the mass media. Lin Yutang once said:"Convention, religion, tradition and social class would not exist without woman. There is no born well-mannered man, neither is born ill-mannered woman.""Ugly Girl" phenomenon, which breaks the shackle of traditional taste in beauty, is a feminine attempt to pursue aesthetic freedom, a media prolongation, an ugliness entertainment of a consumption society, and the offspring of popular culture turning to postmodern.This"Ugly Girl"article is a research on, is a female image that frequently appear in the mass media and is considered ugly by the modern standard .
