Cao’s novels focus on the children’s world, show the life of the youth, and createthe images of children. The world of the children is a poetry Rural, poetic andpicturesque, beautiful and full of natural warmth of humanity. Seeking the spirit ruralis the main driver of Cao ’s novels. The search of this paper has three main stages:childhood children’s world, discussion on the construction of poetic spirit, and thepastoral pursuits to pastoral.First chapters start with the children, children’s images in the world, pastoralinterpretation written by Cao’s childhood, in its preliminary inquiry: he show the ruralof children, with emphasis on depicting children’s characters, these are the result ofhis childhood feelings. He has a near-obsession for rural construction. Chapter IIshows Cao’s poetic rural: the human beauty, natural beauty, scenery beautiful. Pastoralcharm shows as a poem, the classical atmosphere pervade everywhere. This chapterfurther analysis Cao’s exploration of the creative spirit, which is derived from hispastoral, pastoral life in the past without lingering on his mind, as main material ofcreation. for a long time the city life in his novels could not be integrated, the heroescannot feel the sense of home. Feelings of homesickness and "host" identity collisionscontinue, in his work, the hero are almost in the state of going back home andreturning between the urban and the rural, they may always ask themselves thatquestion "where is my home". Cao’s rural has a hint of melancholy, people of the ruralmight be in the state of poverty or physical disability even their family are notcomplete, but on the whole presented a pastoral is a landscape painting, fascinatingpiece of classical poems, meaningful songs with deep chords. But Cao’s pursuingspiritual and pastoral is just a dream, which is a utopian idea and unreachable in a "paradise"...
