| This report is based on the author’s practice of translating excerpts from L. M. Montgomery’s Mistress Pat, which is the sequel to her another novel Pat of Silver Bush. The novel Mistress Pat describes Pat’s life in her twenties to early thirties. The author of this report, under the guidance of the tutors, and other four classmates formed a translation team to translate this book, with each member responsible for her own part and the corresponding report. In this report, the author first gives a brief introduction to the whole translation task, including the translation project, the specific translation excerpts, translation division, schedule and other work on team coordination; then by following Eugene Nida’s Functional Equivalence theory, the author analyzed examples selected from both the source and target texts from lexical, sentential and textual levels. Because the source text involved in this report does not have a published Chinese version at present, both the analysis on the translation process and the achievements of the whole translation team can only serve as a reference for those who are interested in this book. |
