The musical Rent is a rock musical based on the puccini’s La Boheme. Jonathan Larson himself ac ted as both lyricist, composer and playwrighter. The musical depicted the life and emotions of a gr oup of young people who have art ideal but live in poverty and AIDS shadow. It conveys the them e thought of faith in love and "No day but today".The play is a portrait works of multiple characters as object’s group involving gay, bisexual, transv estite, AIDS, Bohemia, etc. a variety of marginalized cultures. It has a profound impact on the the me, conception, culture, music and social significance.In this paper, we use five chapters to analyze the musical Rent according to the way of first decom position. The first chapter gives a brief introduction of author, his creation motivation and creating background, theme and social significance. The second chapter analyzes the characters’ images; Chapter Three summarizes the relationship between the characters of the drama, and analyzes the four clues which have a major impact on the dramatic structure;The fourth chapter, three kinds of structure factors are found out and analyzed respectively, and explores how the variety of material s are knitted together; Chapter Five observes the drama of the overall analysis rhythm changing cu rves from the point of theater contradictions and music colour respect.
