An Ethical Analysis On Chinese TV Marriage Programs

The TV marriage programs, taking an unique form, came into being on the Chinese television screens in the late eighties of last century. Along with the development of Chinese social reform and opening up the TV marriage programs developed and in the process of its rapid development it also produced a variety of problems. The popular phenomenon of TV marriage programs had attracted extensive attention from audiences, it also raised hot social disputes. However, there was really a lack of in-depth ethical reflection and research toward this hot issue.Firstly, the article made a brief description on the emergence and development of Chinese TV marrage programs, and analyzed its positive ethical role. It not only provided a new way for the community healthy and civilized marriage exchanges, enriched and satisfied the spiritual and cultural life of the masses and as well led the progress of the moral values of marriage in our country. At the same time, in the process of rapid development of Chinese marriage programs there were many ethical problems, such as the sincerity question of progarms’content, the utilitarian tendencies of the program producing team, the immoral attitudes and behavior of involved in guests such as money worship and hedonism. The article regarded that the main reason for the above misconceptions and unethical behavior could be attributed to the following aspects:firstly, in the whole environment, during the process of reform and opening up it was influenced by variety of erroneous Western ideas, for example, money worship, consumerism and hedonism; secondly, during the development and reform of Chinese TV industry the one-side pursuit of economic efficiency and neglected of the utilitarian tendencies of social efficiency; Finally, it were the program producers, from the television stations down to each practitioners of program pruducing they were lack of an ethical awareness, and they ignored TV media as mass media should have certain responsibility and role.The third part of article provided several ethical measures for improving Chinese TV marriage programs from the following four aspects, firstly, the governmental departments should strengthen the construction of the ethical system, including the construction of the ethical system from the aspects of laws and regulations, and the establishment of the normal mechanism of the Professional Ethics education for television practitioners; secondly, was the moral self-regulation, it should set about from the self-regulation of the media industry and the individual moral education of every television employee; thirdly, through the moral supervision and leading effect of of public opinion, to establish social moral evaluation system on television Marriage programs as well as ethical oversight mechanisms of TV audiences; forthly, those guests who participate in the TV marriage programs must correct their participation motives, realize correct concept of marriage, and learn to respect others.The article made a dialectical analysis on the Chinese TV marriage programs so as try to provide a real and workable perfect path for the sound development of such programs.
