Case-based teaching is now widely applied to many courses such as management,law, economy and so on. In addition, it is also used in law English, business English andforeign language learning courses as well. While there still remains some space worthexploring in the field of ESP teaching, especially in tourism management Englishteaching, which is ignored by many researchers and teachers.The current rigid teaching method in tourism management English teaching whichis still based on new words, grammar and pattern drills leads to lower levels of thelearner’s interests, motivation and the unsatisfactory teaching effectiveness. Based onthe analysis of tourism management English teaching, the writer conducts a targetedresearch and analyzes the application of case-based teaching to English course fortourism management.The purpose of doing the present research is to investigate whether case-basedteaching is an effective method to improve students’ English communicative ability andenhance their comprehensive English capacity. The main teaching form is casediscussion and the teaching goal is achieved through the learner’s reading and analyzingthe case, discussing the case in groups and writing the case report. Meanwhile, students’attitude and response to case-based teaching is also investigated, that is, whether collegestudents are willing to apply this theory to their English class.On the basis of analyzing the present situation of tourism management Englishteaching, and directed against the long existing problems in tourism management Englishteaching such as the boring content, the rigid teaching method, the low level of thelearners’ interest and motivation and the unsatisfactory teaching effectiveness. The authorselects Motivating for Performance from English Course for Tourism Managementwritten by Duan Kaicheng, and takes the tourism management majors that are chosenfrom a class of the third year students of tourism management department in JinZhongCollege as an example, demonstrates in detail the implementation process and theachieved teaching effect of Case-based Teaching in English Course for TourismManagement.The result of the research shows that applying case-based teaching to English coursefor tourism management has essential and vital effect on improving students’comprehensive language competence as well as arousing students’ interest in this course. Meanwhile, the specific procedure of the application of case-based teaching to Englishcourse for tourism management has been further explored. However, due to the smallsample and short experimental period, there are still some limitations in the present study.
