Influence Of School Adaptation Status On Health Status In Primary School Students In Poor Areas

Objectives To investigate the school adaptation status and main influencing factors of the primary school students in Yanbian poor areas and to analysis the impact of health environment, health behaviors, physical health and mental health on school adaptation and discuss the health education strategies of school adaptation of the primary school students in poor areas.Methods Two poverty counties of Yanbian, Antu County and Wangqing County, were selected as for the study setting and1979primary school students, from Grade One to Grade Six were recruited as for the subjects. School Adaptation Assessment Scale for primary school students, Health Environment Scale, Health Behaviors Questionnaire, Mental Health Assessment Questionnaire, and Physical Health Assessment Questionnaire were used while height and weight was measured using Z method. SPSS15.0statistical software was applied for the data analysis.Results Total school adaptation score of the subjects was (10.45±2.00) while the performance assessment was (1.26±0.61), school general identification was (1.78±0.49), class behavior was (1.59±0.34), and interpersonal relationship was (1.27±0.53). The total school adaptation score of different genders, grads, and age were significantly different. The score of school adaptation was positive related with mental health (r=0.20, P<0.01) while negative related with score of physical symptoms (r=-0.14, P<0.01). Age, gender, age, mental health, and score of physical symptoms could explain the15.3%variation of school adaptation.Conclusions The total school adaptation of the poverty counties was fair and the general identification degree of school was relatively high while the score of performance assessment and interpersonal relationship was not satisfied. Age, gender, and grade were the influencing factors of school adaptation. There were significant differences of mental health according to age, gender, and age and the mental health had impact on the school adaptation. The score of physical symptoms among the grades were significantly different and the score of physical symptoms also impact the school adaptation.
