Overseas studies on Ou-yang Hsiu, from the perspectives of the visions on the research field, are classified into panoramic view, partial view and sporadic view. Although the Overseas studies on Ou-yang Hsiu and his works have not been a very grand scale, the researches are kept renewing continuously on the time dimension: American Chinese scholar James T.C.Liu and James J.Y. Liu in1970s; And American scholar Ronald Egan who started his own Ou-yang Hsiu studies in1980s,still find new research perspectives in this field which has been reflected in his new book. Then since the past ten or twenty years, Professor Peter K. Bol from Harvard University sees the emergence of Ou-yang Hsiu as the most important literary intellectual. Taking into account the the current Japan scholars, most of them are just currently around their40s Or50s, they are very active in the Overseas Ou-yang Hsiu studies field in recent years. Both Euro-American scholars and Asian scholars in their own researches, have adopted new methods with new insights. In General, the overseas studies on Ou-yang Hsiu are quite complex and cover almost all aspects of Ou-yang Hsiu. Therefore, this thesis takes " Li (理)" as the core inspection points, and makes a study of the overseas studies on Ou-yang Hsiu since the second half of the20th century.Taking "Li (理)" as the core inspection points, and combining Ou-yang Hsiu’s lifetime achievements——"ancient Chinese classics studies","Ku-wen Movement of its day "and "creation of poetry and songs", this thesis has discovered the outcomes of overseas Ou-yang Hsiu studies. Firstly, Ou-yang Hsiu was considered to be a Pioneer of the Neo-Confucianism. And for Ou-yang Hsiu the the "Li理"/Tao(道)to be figured out lay within the realm of human affairs. Secondly, as a thinker and as a writer, during the mid-century Ku-wen Movement, Ou-yang Hsiu had tested that"Tao is the basis of Wen, and Wen is the function of Tao".Thirdly, in Ou-yang Hsiu’s poetry, we can see that he tried to illustrate his passions and interests in his life through his poetry. And in his songs, Ou-yang Hsiu had exemplified the tension between sense and sensibility. Finally, some current scholars have pointed out that Ou-yang Hsiu had a dual character, which is public nature and private nature.
