The Phonetic System Research On Old-fashioned Sichuan Xichang Chengguan Dialect

Xichang dialect, having special color in the using southwestern mandarin area, is one of Chinese dialect outside of Southwestern mandarin in Sichuan. As the product of immigrants, the formation of Xichang dialect is a complex history process. Several times of immigration in the history, so the historical levels of Xichang dialect deposit many dialects of different areas. Among them, as the representative of Xichang dialect, old-fashioned Chengguan Dialect is superposed by different dialect styles,and its historic source is Henan dialect of northern mandarin.The research of Xichang dialect from predecessors is not too much. Reviewed from research results, the Phonetic System of Sichuan dialects in1960has a system description about phonetic system in the way of modern linguistics and leaves some precious information for researching the phonetic system of Xichang Chengguan dialect. After that, there are some descriptions about Xichang Chengguan dialect by some scholars in1996,1998,2004and2008.But there are little special articles in two research aspects, diachronic evolution and synchronic comparison.First, according to some literature records of history, chorography and genealogy, the author investigates the historical population resource in Xichang and describes the internal division and research status on Xichang dialect.Secondly, this article represents the phonetic system of Xichang Chengguan dialect in fdetail on the base of fieldwork. At first, it describes the initials, finals and tones by Dialect Investigation Character Table, and explains values, cites example words, sums phonological features up. And then, it depicts some phenomenon by language section materials, lliterary and colloquial reading, retroflex suffixation, tone sandhi, inflexion, and so on. In the description of tone sandhi, it indicates what the falling tone of Xichang dialect read21tone and213tone freely without the restrictions of spoken chain environment, is a result of the influence by chengdu dialect for a long time, is a result of langauge contact and that is still at an unstable stage of language evolution process.Thirdly, This thesis, from diachronic aspect, compares Xichang Chengguan dialect with Medieval Phonology, investigates the developing situation of the initials, finals and tones, and finds out the Laws of Phonetic evolution. According to the theories of modern phonetics and phonemics, the comparative study of tone system expounds that in Xichang Chengguan dialect the falling tone cannot become tone separately. The development track of falling tone only can seek the answers from finals category.At last, from synchronic aspect, this thesis compares Xichang Chengguan dialect with Henan dialect, Yannan dialect and Chengdu dialect, to analyse similarities and differences, and show the features of Xichang old-fashioned Chengguan Dialect in synchronic system, their own developing situation of phonology. And it further studies from language contact, anounces the historical levels of Xichang old-fashioned Chengguan Dialect and explains its belonging.
