With the virtual opening up of China at the beginning of Twentieth century, ever-increasing Chineseyoung art talents went to study abroad. They became interested in modern western civilization, and realizedit might serve as the powerful tool to revolute the traditional painting as well as the traditional education.This study aims to carry out a comprehensive analysis to the artistic concepts of Wang Yachen, the famousart educator.As the mostly influential art theorists and art critics in the period from1930s to1940s, WangYachen is regarded as the most erudite and all-round art scholar in the field of Chinese art history. Living inthe turmoil age of China, Wang had committed himself to the Chinese art education. He had fourexperiences of abroad investigation, and made great efforts in raising funds for art education. He hadestablished the Xinhua art college, Xinhua Normal school, Tianma society, Moshe paint society, ectrespectively. Holding the banner of “Serve China with the abroad means”, Wang Yachenmade an outstanding contribution to arts education in China.The study is composed of four parts as below. Chapter one is a brief introduction to Wang’s art style aswell as the main phases of his painting development. To begin with, the time background and the status ofarts at that time is introduced and then the analysis of Wang’s contribution and different creating stage ispresented. Chapter two, the key part of this study, consists of two parts, the former dedicates to the deeperinterpretation to Wang’s education concepts as well as its philosophy ideas, which include the followingfour aspects: rejecting compromise and basing on tradition; founding painting societies and schools;composing teaching materials and rigorously conducting research. Nad the later one fouses on Wang’s artconcepts and art insight. Chanter three carries out a further analysis to wang’s painting art and itsinspirations to modern art education. Chapter four serves as the conclusion of this study.Wang Yachen’s art career is closely related to the characteristics of the nation, society, age and life. Heexemplifies the “true artist” image to serve the nation’s art theory development and education with heartand soul. His art concept of “rejecting compromise and basing on tradition” distinguishing him from othercontemporary artists. During the process of his teaching, he advocated the students to focus on the sketch practice and meanwhile do some supplementary copy, and finally make the creativity possible. He alsocompiled some teaching materials, which lay solid foundation to the art teaching textbook regulation.Wang Yachen has left us a rich spiritual heritage, and meanwhile he wrote a glorious chapter of beinga Chinese artist with his fighting spirit.
