The paper mainly discussed: Scientific foundation of environmental protection. Through studythe relationship of diversity and stability, confirm the scientific foundation of environmental protection,thus understand the rationality of environmental protection and implementation environmental protectionstrategy in scientific. The conclusion of the paper is that we advocate environmental protection in scientificsignificance, implement "adjust measures to local conditions" and prudent strategy.Since the1970s, the debate about the relationship between diversity and stability has neverstopped. Theory of relationship between diversity and stability as an important theory biological diversityprotection basis, Although there is no scientific certainty about the support, the protection of biologicaldiversity has become the theme of environmental protection. Biological diversity protection seems to havebeyond the scientific scope, how to protect biodiversity to scientific defense, how to implement scientificsignificance biological diversity protection is the purpose of this paper. Then clarified the relationshipbetween diversity and stability problem is the important way to answer the above problems.The first part of paper issues the relationship of diversity and stability in the ecological context.This part based on the history and current research results. Attempt to make a more clear understanding ofdiversity and stability relationship of form and mechanism. This paper based on the diversity as the logicalstarting point of diversity and stability problems, simplified the difficulty of the research, making thecomplex scientific question is very clearly. This part discusses the origin of the relationship betweendiversity and stability and it’s premise, through study the development and debates of this problems.Summarized the present state, had a more mature understanding of the relationship between diversity andstability. Under certain conditions, diversity can lead to stability, but diversity/stability model does notdescribe the common law of the nature, does not exist general relationship between diversity and stability,diversity and stability on the characteristics of the relationship is diversity.The second part discussed the existence of the debate about the relationship between diversityand stability and the reason of why there is no general relationship of diversity and stability. This partmainly through philosophical perspective think that the polysemy of the concept, differently research scaleand the speciality law of ecology are the causes of the above-mentioned issues. Then,taking ecology as a scientific basis of environmental and the strategy of environmental protection should have changed.In the third part, on the basis of understanding the relationship between diversity and stability, inthe scientific sense of environmental protection and the rationality, and give based on scientific basis ofenvironmental protection strategy. This paper thinks that the social significance of environmentalprotection can’t give a scientific guide to action, only science can make justification for environmentalprotection.
