The research topic of this paper was the tombs in the Three Gorges during the Three Kingdoms, the Western and the Eastern Jin dynasties, and the Northern and Southern Dynasties. There were four chapters in the paper.The first chapter was the preface. This chapter introduced the geographic environment and discussed the research region of this paper, which was from Fuling in the west to the Yichang along the rivers in the east. It combed the historical organization system of the Three Gorges and summarized archeological excavation and research situations of the tombs in the Three Gorges during the Three Kingdoms, the Western and the Eastern Jin dynasties, and the Northern and Southern Dynasties. It pointed out that the research points of this paper were the typological analysis of the tomb structures, subarea and periods research of the tombs, the growth and decline problems of the brick-chambered tombs and the stone-chambered tombs.The second chapter was the typological analysis of the tomb structures. Firstly, it introduced the general situations of the tombs which displayed that the brick-chambered tombs and the stone-chambered tombs were prevalent in this area. It discussed the structures and types of the brick-chambered tombs and the stone-chambered tombs and discovered that the structures of these two kinds of tombs were similar. Secondly, according to the types and the historical evolutions of the brick-chambered tombs and the stone-chambered tombs, they were divided into three periods-Shu-Han Kingdom and the western Jin dynasty, the eastern Jin dynasty, and the Northern and Southern Dynasties. The three Gorges were divided into two regions-the eastern region and the western region. The burial cultures in two regions were different.The third chapter was the growth and decline problems of the brick-chambered tombs and the stone-chambered tombs. This chapter selected several typical tombs as the research objects to explain the basic situations of the stone-chambered tombs and the culture difference between the stone-chambered tombs and the brick-chambered tombs. With the observation on the proportion of the stone-chambered tombs and the brick-chambered tombs in Zigui, Badong and Chongqing of Hubei, it discussed the phenomena and the reasons that the stone-chambered tombs reduced and the brick-chambered tombs became the main trend.The fourth chapter was the epilogue. It summed up the conclusions of the paper and also presented the problems for the further discussion.
