Imported books are important components of China’s publishingindustry. The main purpose of introducing foreign books is to enrichchoices for readers and to provide them useful information. To realize theexpected aim of introduced books, translators should abide by certaintranslating rules and adopt various translation strategies, while be loyal tooriginal books and writers of them and be oriented to reader.This paper studies the translated material, which is done under theguidance of the skopos rule, so as to provide possible suggestions onimproving the quality of translation, and hopefully the research results oftranslation theory’s role in translating practice can be borrowed by others.The translation subject is a book named the Ultimate Book of Dinosaursby Dougal Dixon, the world recognized expert in dinosaurs and one ofthe most popular science writers in England.In the paper, chapter one gives a general introduction of thebackground of translation and the information of the author, and thenchapter two goes on to illustrate the translation theory applied whilechapter three demonstrates the translation skills and strategies used.Besides, the author, while sharing the experience of translation, discusses the translation criteria and points out where one must pay attention towhen translating. Conclusion of this paper is drawn in chapter four.
