Noun-classifier is a special kind of word in Han Tang language system. It not onlyexpresses the mode of thinking that considers symbol as core point, but also deeply imbued withnational identity.Noun-classifier in Chinese is seperated into2kinds: specific noun-classifier and borrowednoun-classifier. In which specific noun-classifier combines with noun is stipulated, it can not beused freely. And borrowed noun-classifier is borrowed from noun or verb to be used as aclassifier, the quantity of this kind of classifier is very large, it can be analogic. To be master ofspecific noun-classifier, student can understand more about Chinese culture and their mode ofthinking students. And to be master of borrowed noun-classifier, students can consolide theflexible application of word and grammaticalization of language. However, to foreign students,both2kinds of classifier are very difficult.In this essay, I chose “Chinese borrowed noun-classifier” and “Vietnamese borrowed noun-classifier” as objects to study, in which the first one is central object, and the remained iscomparision one. Even though the quantity of Vietnamese noun-classifier is not as many asChinese but it also has it own particular feature. From the side of meaning,“Chinese andVietnamese borrowed noun-classifier” can be seperated into3kinds: borrowed noun to identifycontainers; borrowed noun to indentify human body parts and borrowed noun to identify familyrelationship. Based on predecessors’s knowledge, the writer has collected statistics and selectedout the typical borrowed noun-classifiers in Chinese and Vietnamese, then seperated them into5teams. On the angle of semantics, grammar and use of grammar, I use the semantic analysismethod and grammatical structure analysis method to analyse, compare and give examples toprove the similarity and difference of these5teams of classifiers.With the above study steps, I believe that this essay can achieve a certain goal of studying,to help leaners and teachers acknowledge the similarity and difference between Chinese andVietnamese borrowed noun-classifiers, and to help foreign students understand well aboutparticular grammar and semantics of Chinese borrowed noun-classifier. I hope that this essay will become a reliable document in teaching Chinese to Vietnamese students and teachingVietnamese to Chinese students.Being a foreign student who comes to China to study, I have studied Chinese for6years,but because of my limited capability, I think that I myself have just approach the surface ofChinese, so I need to continue studying and accumulating. Apart from that, with the topic of“borrowed noun-classifiers in Chinese and Vietnamese”, this essay is the first one. So in theprocess of studying there may be some mistake, I hope that teachers and friends will help mewith comments, advices and more discussion.
