Modern times are the important history period for Chinese traditional art education modernization. However, Li Shutong is the one of trailblazer to promote the Chinese traditional arts education modernization, he first time completely bring the western art teaching method into the modem art education in China, and combined the Chinese traditional aesthetics thought with Western fine arts teaching method, formed the way for adapt to local education, introject Chinese with western art education facilitate to the development of traditional art education. This paper focuses on investigates the formation and development of Li Shutong’s art education ideas, through combining many methods such as field survey and literature review, historical induction and realistic analysis, there for, from the social perspective, aim at the main problems about the development of art education in present, we put forwards many appropriate suggestions and recommendations. Through these investigation, we look forward to our research production can react on the advancement to today’s art education.There are six sections in this paper, we will discourse upon the related problems of art education ideas of Li Shutong, respectively, and probe into some theory and practical significance of Li Shutong’s art education thoughts.The first section is the introduction, comprise the purpose and significance, research status, research ideas and methods, indicate that Li Shutong and related research, in which the art education thoughts and practical significance are still worthy of further exploration and research.The second section comprise three aspect, the social background, cultural background, personal background, comprehensive analyse the impact of art education ideas of Li Shutong formation in the age of reason, and seeks to explain the influence on above three aspects of the Li Shutong art thought, as well as mutual influence of the cross relationship among the three aspect, and it provides foundation for the study of next part, formation of Li Shutong’s art education ideas.The third section through detailed Li Shutong’s art theory and practice analysis in the period between went abroad in1906to1918before enter into religion, combined with representative examples and argumentation of historical materials, summed up the content, keystone, characteristics and significance of Li Shutong’s art education thought, reveals that Li Shutong play the important role in transformation of modern Chinese traditional art education.The fourth section through summary of the Li Shutong art education thoughts, starting from the successful transformation of the traditional art education in modern China, summed up his contributions to two aspect, the modern art education theory and practice, and according to Li Shutong in normal teaching practice the far-reaching influence of in-depth analysis, explore the great reference value to the teaching method.The fifth section through the exploration of the Li Shutong’s art education thought, affirmed the social function of art education and the important significance of overall development of peoples. It reveals that directive significance of Chinese and Western painting fusion view point of Li Shutong to current art education development and the important value of aesthetic education, and according to the current art education reform and development problem, put forward the suggestions can be used for reference.The sixth section, main perspectives, conclusions of full text are summarized, and point out the lack of research of this paper.
