The color “white” is one of the basic color-words in English as wellas in Chinese. We collected the data about Bai and White respectivelyfrom the Great Chinese Dictionary and Oxford English Dictionary, andcontrasted the similarities and differences of the two. According to thesimilarities and differences, we analyzed the commendatory and thederogatory sence of the two words, and we could see the culturalconnotation behind them. Through the different cultural connotation, wecan have a full realization of the social life, values and culturalpsychology. This is favorable not only to Chinese and English learningbut also the communications across cultures.
