As an indispensable part of academic literatures, citation serves as a significantguarantee of the research quality and plays an essential role in the evolution ofacademic disciplines. Experts and scholars both in the liberal arts and empiricalresearch paradigm have approached their research fields through citation analysis soas to reflect its defining nature and innate rules. In China, its importance hasn’taroused sufficient attention and the paper regarding citation as the research target isfew. Although simultaneous interpretation studies in China made its debut threedecades ago, there still exits unavoidable problems in terms of research aspects, research methodology and interdisciplinary trend as well. A discussion ofsimultaneous interpretation studies by employing citation analysis may identifyspecific weak aspects and explore their potential reasons. Therefore, the present thesis chooses the period from1994to2011to conduct anintensive study on205citations selected from papers published on four commonlyacknowledged source journals with the highest impact factors. There are fourperspectives to be investigated including quantity of citations in each language, thefrequently cited domestic and western authors, the popular Chinese and Englishacademic literatures, and the most favored cited text form as well. Comparing thesefour areas of Chinese interpretation studies with their counterparts in the West, thepaper directs attention to where we lag behind, calls for attaching greater importanceto its development, and offers some specific suggestions for dealing with the existingproblems.
