Chinese tourism industry is developing vigorously and rapidly. The rich touristresources have a great appeal to the overseas tourists. Under the circumstances of thiskind, the interpretive text of the tourist attraction is regarded as one of the significantinformation channel through which the foreign tourist can acquire a relatively distinctunderstanding of the visited place. Automatically, the rendering of the Chineseinterpretive text has aroused enormous attention from experts in this area, whotentatively explore the translation of this scope from different perspectives. They havefurthered, in certain degree, the development of this hotly-discussed area. This thesis concentrates its attention on the C–E rendition of the interpretivetext in cultural tourist attractions and approaches the translation from a relatively newangle—interpretive theory, which views the sense equivalence between the originaltext and the target text as the core of a translation. The interpretive theory is regardedas a communicative and interpretive theory. This French theory is first applied ininterpreting activities, as the unceasing study conducted, the field of this theory isextended from interpretation to translation, including practical writing translation, lawtranslation, literary translation and general translation studies and the like. Taking it asthe guiding theory, the author employs some concepts of the interpretive theory todeal with the specific translation problems, such as uncovering the implicit meaningof the original text, getting rid of the restraints of the original linguistic features, syntactic features and discourse features to extract the main idea of the source text, which is transferred into the target text. During the thesis writing, a field researchmethod, an analytical method and a summarized method are adopted. After theanalysis of the samples of an original text, the interpretive theory is proved to befeasible in guiding the C-E translation of interpretive texts in cultural touristattractions. A conclusion is naturally arrived that this theory can be effectivelyutilized to handle the above-mentioned problems arising in the C-E translation ofinterpretive texts in cultural tourist attractions.
