| Motivation is considered by many researchers as one of the main determiningfactor in studying a second/foreign language successfully. On the basic of the Gardnerand Lambert’s motivation research model, Scholars at home and abroad expand it, theydo more related research on students’ foreign language learning motivation and itsvarious dimensions (factors). China need more research relevant to motivation ofprofessional foreign students learning Chinese.This study is survey research in order to study the present situation of Chineselearning for Thai students who are Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of OtherLanguages Major in Chongqing area (Chongqing University and Southwest University),to investigate the types and strength of Chinese learning motivation, and also thedifferences of different individuals’ Chinese learning motivation.The samples respondents were44. The target population of this study is Thaistudent whose study Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages Majorinvestigated by questionnaire method, and analyze the motivation with SPSS16.0software. The analysis and tests results indicated that follow:First, this study divides4motivation types:1) intrinsic motivation2) extrinsicmotivation3) integrate motivation4) instrumental motivation. Among these types,instrumental motivation is the main motivation of Thai Student in Master of TeachingChinese to Speakers of Other Languages Major and extrinsic motivation is weak.Second, the study also found that Thai students in gender, age and race on thestrength of motivation of Chinese is not significantly different. Time period of learningChinese has certain effect on the strength of Chinese learning motivation for Thaistudents. Students have been learning Chinese long, their intrinsic motivation, extrinsicmotivation and instrumental motivation gradually reduce, but integrate motivation is anupward trend.Finally, Thai student’s intrinsic motivation on Foreign–Chinese teachers hasstrong learning motivation. Furthermore, Thai student’s intrinsic motivation on Masterof Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages Major has strong learningmotivation. In a word, Thai students study for Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakersof Other Languages Major because of their interest on Chinese Teaching job and thebusiness itself. They learn the profession because they want to be a Chinese teacher. As for Thai Student in Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of OtherLanguages Major, researcher put forward appropriate methods and effective measuresabout stimulating learning motivation of students in Chinese on the teaching aims andcurriculums. Researcher want to have some reference significance for improving theirquality of Chinese teaching. |
