This study tested640freshmen as samples in PeiHua University. The TennesseeSelf-concept Scale(for college students) revised by Chen Zhina and College StudentsAdaptability Inventory by Lu Xiefeng were used as the instruments of the study;employed variance analysis(ANOVA) and regression analysis to analyze theinfluence of freshmen self-concept on college adaptation, in addition, provided theempirical data for the freshmen education of university.The result showed that⑴.The overall condition of freshmen’s self-concept waspreferable, but the overall level of adaptability was low.⑵.The self-concept, moralself and physical self were obviously different between girls and boys. The overalldevelopment level of boys’ self-concept and physical self was higher than that of girlswhile the moral self of girls was higher than that of boys.⑶.There was no differencefor all majors in the aspect of self-concept. The self-concept of both liberal arts andscience students was different in the morality and family background.⑷.There wasno obvious difference existed in overall development of self-concept.⑸.Theexperiences of being a student leader and doing part-time jobs have impacted onself-concept.⑹.The overall level of self-concept of freshmen was related to the levelof adaptability as well as learning adaptation, interpersonal adaptation,role adaptationcareer choice adaptability, livelihood self-management adaptability, environmentalgeneral evaluation, Physical and psychological adaptation,which also had someinfluence on the concrete aspects of adaptability.⑺.The physical self,moral self,family self, mental self, social self were related to the concrete aspects of adaptabilityaccording to the angles, among which the physical self had the strongest influence,and social self, moral self successively.Based on the results of the study, this paper was to help freshmen in theuniversity to adjust their self-concept and adapted to the college life as well by theconcerted efforts of tutors and freshmen themselves.
