| Proper English translation of public signs in tourist attractions will not onlypromote and consolidate the development of tourist economy, but also accelerateforeign transmission of China’s excellent culture. However, it is still very common forinaccurate and non-standard C-E translation of public signs in China’s touristattractions, not to mention Ganzhou. Small problems like spelling mistake or seriousproblems like translation without foundation, all of these translation problems will notonly damage the image of Ganzhou seriously, but also bring troublesomeness toforeign tourists’ daily life and even restrict the development of tourism economy andforeign dissemination of excellent culture. This situation makes people worried. Somescholars have had some studies about the C-E translation of public signs in Ganzhou,but most of the studies are still limited to correct mistakes purely, exemplify withexamples and analyze relative strategies. These studies fail to combine withappropriate theories to form a complete research system. So these studies still can notmake a comprehensive guidance for the C-E translation of public signs in Ganzhou.For helping improve the current status of the C-E translation of public signs inGanzhou tourist attractions and promote the development of tourism economy and thedissemination of local culture, this paper aims to make an all-sided analysis and asummary about the C-E translation problems of public signs, then find out the relativecauses and put forward available strategies under the guidance of Skopostheorie bycollecting the C-E translations of public signs in Ganzhou tourist attractionsThe research process mainly includes three aspects. Firstly, there is aclassification about the translation problems existing in C-E translation of public signs.According to the three rules and culture-specificity, the problems can be divided intofour kinds: the violating of skopos rule, the violating of coherence rule, the violatingof fidelity rule and the violating of culture specificity. Secondly, the causes areanalyzed from the perspective of the participants in the translation process, includingthe initiator, commissioner, translator and addressees. At last, available strategies areput forward from the perspective of the intertextual and intratextual factors. In a word, the C-E translation problems of public signs in Ganzhou touristattractions are variable and complicated, relative departments should pay moreattention to them and effective measures should be carried out as soon as possible toimprove the translation quality. Otherwise, they will damage the city’s appearance in alight level or even impede the economic development seriously. |
