A Study Of Medical Social Work Services For Stroke Patients

This thesis is an applied research about how can the medical social worker get involved into the stroke patients. Medical social work is a career which can be adapted to the new medical model for the patient to provide professional services, and plays an important function and role in disease treatment and rehabilitation work. In recent years, China’s medical treatment and public health have been the focus of the whole society, as that incidence rate of all kinds of diseases is rising, and doctor-patient dispute also emerges in endlessly. Attention on medical social work based on patient’s physiological, psychological and social factors and so on, just makes up the shortage of the current medical field focusing only on the patients physiology. The introduction of medical social work, not only can alleviate the doctor-patient conflicts, but also can make patients recover better.In our country, medical social work is still in its infancy, so research on its theory and practice is relatively rare. In this study, through field research and participatory observation, the author accessed to a lot of job information, and the in-depth interviews of materials for stroke patients and their families, found the diverse needs of stroke patients in the process of treatment and rehabilitation. According to field work and study, the author demonstrated the medical social worker’s service process and strategy to stroke patients and their family members in X Hospital, and made the self-examination and recommendations finally.The theoretical significance of this study is to deepen the overall understanding of the demand of the stroke patients through the analysis of the stroke patients and their relatives, at the same time, this thesis proves how the relevant theories and skills of social work is used in the medical social work practice. According to the reflection of its theory and practice, it can be applied to make up the inadequacy of current medical social work research. Its practical significance lies in the fact that it enriches the localization of medical social work experience in China, and has reference significance for future services in stroke patients and the related practice work; moreover, this thesis encourages medical social workers and patients and families to strengthen the understanding of medical social work, constantly improves the service system, and increases the service quality. The author hopes that through the research, government and society will pay more attention to the development of medical social work.
