Objective To explore the effect of comprehensive nursing intervention on self-management behaviors and visual function of patients with glaucoma.Methods Eight five patients with primary glaucoma were randomized into intervention group and control group. The patients in intervention group received comprehensive nursing intervention which involve strengthening professional support, encourage patients’participating, reinforce family and peer’s surport. The patients in the control group received necessary nursing when they have outpatient visits. The score of the self-management questionnaire of glaucoma and visual function were compared between two groups at three months and six months after intervention with repeated meatures ANOVA and t-test.Results Thirty nine patients in intervention group and thirty eight patients in control group completed the research.(1)At three months after intervention, there were no significant differences between two groups in difference of total score with baseline (p>0.05). It was significantly different at six months after intervention (p<0.05)(2)There were significant differences in difference of dimension of life style with baseline at three months after intervention (p<0.05), and no significant differences at six months (p>0.05)(3)There were no significant differences in difference of dimension of follow-up with baseline at three months and six months after intervention (p>0.05)(4)At three months after intervention, there were no significant differences between two groups in difference of dimension of medical management (p>0.05). It was significantly different at six months after intervention (p<0.05)(5)There were no significant differences in difference of visual function with baseline at three months and six months after intervention (p>0.05)Conclusion Compared with routine nursing, comprehensive nursing intervention is more effective in improving self-management behaviors of patients with glaucoma. Comprehensive nursing intervention could change the life style of patients with glaucoma and promote their medication adherence.
