Objective:To observe the effects of phacoemulsification on tear film ofthe patients in different ages and to investigate the clinical significances.Methods:154cases(154eyes) with cataract accepted phacoemulsificationcombined with intraocular lens implantation were chosen and divided into threegroups according to different ages, group A,30eyes of the patients aged<60years; group B,68eyes of the patients aged60~75years; group C,56eyes of thepatients aged>75years. Schirmer Ⅰ test, tear break-up time (BUT),cornealfluorescein staining and dry eye symptom score were compared among thethree groups at pre-operation,7days,1and3months after operation.Results:7days after operation, the dry eye symptom score in group A washigher than those in group B and C, there were significant differences(P<0.05or P<0.01);1and3months after operation the scores had no statisticallysignificant difference.7days after operation, the Schirmer Ⅰ test value ingroup C was lower than those in group A and B(P<0.01).7days after operationthe BUT in group A was longer than those in group B and C, there weresignificant differences(P<0.01).1and3months after operation, there werestatistically significant differences between group C and group A,B(P<0.05orP<0.01). The BUT of the patients in group C didn’t recover to preoperative level3months after operation(P<0.01).7days and1month after operation, thecorneal fluorescein staining score in group A was lower than those in group Band C, there were significant differences(P<0.05or P<0.01),3months afteroperation, there were no statistically significant differences between the threegroups. Conclusions:The injury degree and recovered time of ocular surface ofthe patients with different ages after phacoemulsification are different, theinjury and recovered time of ocular surface after operation in elder patientswere more serious than the younger patients.
