Objective:Using Oculus Keratograph5M and ocular surface disease index(OSDI) to evaluate ocular surface and tear film changs after phacoemulsification. Methods:This design of the study was prospective randomized.21patients (10males and11females, average age66.5±8.14years) who underwent phacoemulsification were recruited. OSDI, the height of meniscus, non-invasive tear break-up time (first and average), bulbar redness and limbus redness, corneal fluorescein scores by Oculus Keratograph5M were measured preoperatively and10days,1month,3months postoperatively. Results:Compared with the preoperative, postoperative10days of OSDI in patients increased significantly (P=0.015), the main symptom is a foreign body sensation, an1month returned to their preoperative valus. The mean height of meniscus, the mean first NIBUT, the mean average NIBUT showed no change at day10,1month and 3months compared with preoperative(P>0.05). The occurrence of first tear film break-up point, emerging indifferent quadrants of supernasal, inferonasal, infratemporal, supertemporal, was8eyes (29.6%),11eyes (40.7%),2eyes (5.5%)and6eyes (24.2%) respectively. It showed that the first tear film break-up point occurred in the inferonasal quadrant most frequently. At10days, the bulbar redness scores and limbus redness scores increaed signficantly(P=0.002,0.000), at1month returned to the preoperative values, mean while the limbus redness still increaed signficantly (P=0.019).At3months both bulbar redness limbus redness scores returned to the preoperative level. At day10and1month, the mean corneal fluorescein staining scores incread significantly (P=0.000,0.005), at3months, the mean corneal fluorescein staining scores showed no significant difference from preoperative values. Conclusion:Using Oculus Keratograph5M can evaluate the ocular surface and tear film changs simple, accurate and systematic. The micro incision phacoemulsification caused mild local inflammation about1month postoperatively, otherwise the phacoemulsification did’t significantly affect the stability of tear film. This study needs to expand sample size for further research.
