Objective:To observe the effect, safety, and, improvement of TCM symptoms scores of Moneywort and Verbena Stone-Expelling Decoction on the upper urinary tract calculi, and investigate its treatment effect and mechanism, and thus make a good foundation for further research and development.Method:①60cases of upper urinary tract calculi during Jan.2012and Nov.2012from Fujian Second People’s Hospital were randomly divided into two groups-30cases in control groups,30cases in treatment groups.②The differences of the age and the gender of patient as well as the maximum size and the site of stone before the treatment in the two groups were all no significant(P>0.05).③The treatment groups was given the Moneywort and Verbena Stone-Expelling Decoction and the control groups was given the Stone-Expelling Granules. Painkiller, anti-infectious agent or symptomatic treatment will be given when the patient accompany with renal colic or infection. Both groups were asked to ensure the water intake, everyone should be a daily volume of2000-3000milliliters of drinking water around. Based on the site of stone to guide moderate exercise of the full treatment.④Blood routine tests, liver function, renal function, and electrocardiogram were measured before and after treatment to investigate safety. Imageological examination was inspected once per two weeks in order to observe the curative effect.⑤Both groups were treated continuously for2months and the data were analyzed by statistics, and analysed the curative effect, TCM symptoms scores, safety and adverse reactions.Results:①In the treatment groups, the16cases were cured,12cases effective, and2cases ineffective, the total effective rate was93.3%. However,6,12,12and60.0%in the control groups. And there was significant difference between two groups(P<0.05), the treatment groups was better than the control groups.②After treatment, the TCM syndromes scores were significantly improved in both groups. In treatment groups,18clinical cure,4markedly effective,7effective and1ineffective, the obvious curative effective rate was60%. Meanwhile,12clinical cure,3markedly effective,11effective and4ineffective of control groups with50.0%obvious curative effective rate, the treatment groups better than the control groups(P<0.05).③The average stone clearance time was19.33±9.19days in the treatment groups and18.67±7.23days in the control groups, and there was no significant difference between two groups(P>0.05).④The safety index for these two groups presented normal before and after treatment. There was also no significant difference in safety index before and after treatment(P>0.05).⑤Two groups patients had not happened the adverse effect in stage of therapy. Conclusion:The results of this study show that, on one hand, Moneywort and Verbena Stone-Expelling Decoction not only exert a certain litholytic and lithagogue effect but also improve the TCM syndromes scores for upper urinary tract calculi, on the other hand, the decoction is a safe drug which is worth further research and develop.
