Pileostegia viburnoides var. glabrescens (Saxifragaceae) is widely distributed in southwest of China, India, Vietnam and the Ryukyu islands. The rhizome of P. viburnoides were used to dispel wind, eliminate dampness, eliminate stasis and relieve pain. The clinical function is for treating traumatic injury, fractures, multiple abscess, rheumatism and joint soreness, however, few phytochemical or pharmacological studies were carried out on this plant. The thesis is focused on the chemical constituents and phytotoxic activity of P. viburnoides on the basis of references and previous research. The main research contents and results were as follows:(1) Systemic preparative tests were used to study the chemical constituents of the rhizome of P. viburnoides by the methods of tube reaction and TLC. The results demonstrated that the component part of P. viburnoides contained flavonoids, organic acids, amino acids and essential oil. The results may provide the foundation for designing extraction and separation of the different components. (2) Six compounds were isolated using different separating methods, including column chromatography (silica gel, RP C18, Sephadex LH-20, D101), prep-HPLC, etc. The five compounds are, umbelliferone (Ⅰ)、 skimmin (Ⅱ)、fraxin (Ⅲ)、n-Butyl-β-D-fructopyranoside (Ⅳ)、7-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-8-methoxybenzopyranone (Ⅴ) and Syringin (Ⅵ), respectively. Ⅱ,Ⅴ,Ⅵ,Ⅵ were isolated from P. viburnoides for the first time, so does the crystal structure of Ⅴ. The structures of these compounds were identified by1H-NMR,13C-NMR, DEPT135°, DEPT90°, HSQC, HMBC and gCOSY techniques. The six isolated compounds were evaluated for phytotoxic activity against both Lactuca sativa (lettuce) and Agrostis stolonifera (bentgrass).
