Alpinia Oxyphylla Miq. belongs to Zingiberaceae, mainly produced in HaiNan, GuangDong, GuangXi, which is one of the four big and sough medicine of our country. It has been widely used as a tonic, aphrodisiac, anti-salivation, anti-polyuria, and anti-diarrhea according to thepharmacopoeia of China. Ministry of Health of China announced on the third time that Alpinia Oxyphylla Miq. is one of the plant resources which can be used bothas food and as drug, it has been civil food and drug for long years. In this research, the dried fruits of Alpinia Oxyphylla Miq. (Zingiberaceae) were used, 11 compounds were isolated from the ethanol extract of Alpinia Oxyphylla Miq. by modern technologies of extraction, isolation, purification and identification, furthermore structures of 8 Compounds among them were established and identified on the basis of physico-chemical data and spectrographic evidence, they wereβ-sitosterol(Ⅰ),tectochrysin(Ⅱ), Yakuchinone A(Ⅲ), Oxyphyllol C(Ⅳ),Oplopanone(Ⅴ),7-Epi-teucrenone(Ⅵ), daucosterol palmitate (Ⅶ), daucosterine (Ⅷ). Moreover it is the frist time to obtain compoundⅣin Alpinia Oxyphylla Miq. from China and compoundsⅤ,Ⅵ,Ⅶfrom this herb and this family.Takeβ-sitosterol as mark , use colorimetric method to assay the content of total sterol(glycoside) of different extract of Alpinia Oxyphilla Miq. Results showed that, with polyamide to adsorb and purify, the content of total sterol(glycoside) is 75.08%,, with ethyl acetate to extract, the content of total sterol(glycoside) is 62.27%, the method of using polyamid is better than the method of using ethyl acetate. The result of vitro screening of pharmaco-activity study showed that, compoundsⅠ~Ⅵ, chloroform phase and ethyl acetate phase of the ethanol extract of Alpinia Oxyphilla Miq. have the protective effect on glutamate--induced neuronal apoptosis.
