Objectives:To evaluate psychometric parameters of the simplified Chinese Medical Outcomes Study Social Support Survey scale; to explore the related factors related to social support and to provide scientific evidences for further intervention programs. Methods:The target population was randomly HIV/AIDS patients who were randomly selected and investigated with a cross-sectional design in Hunan, Changsha and Hengyang states from June to Octorber in2011. First we collec297HIV/AIDS patients for the Psychometric Measurement, then were cruited496HIV/AIDS patients for exploring the level of medical social support, related factors, and health status.Data collection tools include:the general information ccollection form, Simplified Chinese Medical Outcomes Study Social Support Survey (MOS-SSS-C),Social Support Scale (SSRS), The Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale(CES-D),and Medical Outcomes Study HIV Health Survey (MOS-HIV), to collect data of AIDS-related information, social support, depression and quality of life.Results:(1Reliability test:The test-retest reliability of the whole scale was0.77. The Cronbach a of the whole scale was0.889, and the four dimensions were0.837、0.759、0.863and0.859respectively.The split reliability of the whole scale and our dimensions were0.933、0.843、0.757.0.857and0.846respectively.(2)Validity test:For the criterion-related validity, the scale was significantly associated with the scores of Social Support Scale (r=0.287~0.595, P<0.01). The scale was significantly associated with depression score and negatively associated with quality of life score. For construct validity, the model fits well (x2/df=2.34CFI=0.935, RMSEA=0.067, PNFI=0.761, PCFI=0.798).(3) The social support score of the test groups was (52.28±24.77). Four dimensions scores were tangible support (60.33±30.63), affectionate support (55.29±27.88), positive social interaction support (48.93±28.50), and emotional-informational support (44.57±24.83). This group of patients had an average of3.19relative supports, but only had1.79friends support. (4) Results of multiple stepwise regression showed that the social support were significant related with two factors, including:marital status (P=0.000,b’=0.262) and annual family income (P=0.000,b’=0.197).(5)Correlation analysis found the quality of life were significant positively related to the social support (r=0.352, P<0.01). Depression was negatively related to the social support (r=-0.406, P<0.01)Conclusion:1.The Simplified Chinese Medical Outcomes Study Social Support Survey (MOS-SSS-C) has good reliability and validity, and adaptive to Chinese population.2. The social support of HIV/AIDS patients in Hunan province was lower than normal level. The social network was single, and the family support plays greater role than others. They can get more tangible support than other aspects.3. Different marital status and family income impact on their social support.4. Depression and quality of life were significant associated with medical social support.
