ObjectiveThe study aimed to assess the present situation of life events, perceived social support and subthreshold depression of medical students. To provide scientific basis for improving the mental health index of medical students and formulating corresponding nursing intervention measures to reduce the incidence of subthreshold depression.MethodsA cross sectional survey was carried out in May to June 2017 by the convenience sampling.Totally 474 medical students from three medical university in Liaoning Province were selected. The demographic questionnaire,Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Check-list(ASLEC),Perceived Social Support Scale(PSSS),Sub-threshold Depression Scale(STDS)employed to evaluate the general demographic characteristics, life events, perceived social support and subthreshold depression.Data entry and analysis, descriptive analysis,t test, anova, pearson correlation analysis, multiple linear regression analysis was conducted by SPSS 22.0 and the mediating effect was tested with Bootstrap.Results1?The scores of ASLEC,PSSS and STDS were(48.18±18.56),(57.65±12.77)and(73.26±21.54)respectively.Subthreshold depression rate of medical students was 30.8%.2?Medical students' life events, perceived social support and subthreshold depression had significant differences in gender, birthplace, only child, major and grade(P<0.05).3?There was a significant positive correlation between the score of ASLEC and the score of STDS(r=0.537,P<0.01).The score of PSSS was negatively correlated with STDS(r=-0.454,P < 0.01),and the score of ASLEC was negatively correlated with PSSS(r=-0.311,P < 0.01).4?The results of multiple linear regression showed that life events proved to be positive predictor of subthreshold depression(?=0.448,t=11.148,P<0.01)and perceived social support(?=-0.183,t=-4.216,P<0.01).The results of multiple linear regression showed that life events(?=0.398,t=10.162,P<0.01)and perceived social support(?=-0.273,t=-6.671,P<0.01)proved to be positive predictor of subthreshold depression.5 ? The total effect of perceived social support on life events and subthreshold depression was 0.623,direct effect was 0.508,indirect effect was 0.115,mediation effect accounted for 18.46%(0.115/0.623)of the total effect.Conclusions1?Medical students have a higher incidence of subthreshold depression.2?The boys group, students from rural areas,non-only children and clinical medicine majors scored high on ASLEC and STDS,but low on PSSS.There were significant differences in the scores of each scale among different grades: ASLEC:freshman > junior >senior > sophomore;PSSS: senior > sophomore > freshman;STDS: freshman > senior > junior > sophomore.3?There were significantly correlated among the life events, perceived social support and subthreshold depression in medical students.Life events had a positive predictive effect on subthreshold depression, and a negative predictive effect on perceived social support.Perceived social support had a negative predictive effect on subthreshold depression.4?Perceived social support played a role of part-mediating variable in the relationship of life events and subthreshold depression.
