Objective To explore the social support for PLWHAS status and the social culture characteristic in rural community of Anhui province; to study the oversea social support mode which have acquired experience successfully, then find out the major problem of the social support network for HIV sufferer in this community; to promote the method and suggestion to establish and improve the social support network for HIV sufferer which suited for the countryside community, and provide the reference data for building the social support network for HIV sufferer which suited for our national condition.Method A total of 219 PLWHAS were selected by cluster sampling method in this cross-sectional study. The questionnaire of the social support mode for HIV sufferer in countryside community of Anhui province made by ourselves was used to collect the quantitative data .And the method of face- to face in-depth interview, which included the understanding and attitude of the target population toward HIV, the affect came from family, the social support status, and the require and suggestion to the social support , was used for the qualitative date.Results 93.6% (205/219) of PLWHAS had history of selling blood. The other 14 PLWHAS were not the blood donor, but their spouses are PLWHAS. The finding suggests that the sexually transmission might become the main transmission route of the secondary generation patients in local area. About status of the family function, more than half (61.2%) of the PLWHAS were well, 24.2% were moderate impediment, 14.6% were seriously impediment. The APGAR scores were different among the sex and the types of family with different marriage status or filial piety of the children or per capita income yearly. Male or the family which PLWHAS has not bereft of one's spouse or filial children or higher income, got higher APGAR score. The Cronbach's Alpha of the APGAR is 0.91. It means that the APGAR can be used to evaluate the family function for PLWHAS in rural area of China. 93.2% (204/219) of PLWHAS lived with their family, and 67.6% of PLWHAS thought that the relationship between spouses had no change. Social support to PLWHAS got mainly from their family (79.3%). The results of descriptive study showed that total scores of social support for the patients was 32.50±7.13, 17.95±4.15 for subjective support, 8.90±3.02for objective support and 5.65±2.42 for social support availability. The government and family had crucial function on social support model for PLWHAS. The scores of social support were increasing with the growing population of family and filial piety. Nearly a half (49.3%) of the PLWHAS consider that they are sick. 82.2% consider they are sick compare with the person with the contemporaries. The result showed that whether drinkers or had chronic illness, and took part in the frequency of manual may be related to self-rated health. The multivariable analysis suggested that take part in the frequency of manual may be related to self-rated health. The mean score of loneliness was 47.62(SD=11.52), and the people who were farmer, with poor fealty from the offspring, poor relationship with neighborhood, and poor family functioning, as well as poor social support were more likely to have higher scores of loneliness. The results of stepwise regression analysis showed that family functioning, social support and so on were the significant predicting variables of loneliness, and was the most powerful predictor. Various types of crowd control on the knowledge of AIDS and the attitude have improved. PLWHAS and their families, in addition to mental suffering is more important economic difficulties; social support mainly from within the family.Conclusions More attention to PLWHAS should be paid. We should carry on the demand care for PLWHAS and to initiate develop health education positively. PLWHAS urgently needed the health care, support and understanding from the whole society. The comprehensive social support mode for them needs to be established. Social support network construction and the Government should give the leading role of the family, and more other organizations and personnel should be mobilized to involve. AIDS-related social support and health services need to be further improved.
