Objective Bronchial asthma in children is a global public health problem and itis of great concern in recent years. It is the most common chronic disease in children. The health and growth of children were affected by asthma seriously. The incidenceof asthma in children is between5%and10%approximately, the epidemiological datasuggest increasing of morbidity and mortality. This study analyzed the clinical data of195cases of acute exacerbation of asthma in children to explore the clinical features ofdifferent age groups (<5years old and≥5years old) of children with acuteexacerbation of asthma. Methods The clinical data concerning195cases of hospitalization children withacute exacerbation of asthma between Jan.2006to Dec.2010were retrospectivelyreviewed, Inclusion criteria referred to the diagnostic criteria from Bronchial asthmadiagnosis and prevention and treatment guidelines in2008, their clinical features werecomparied. The data were analized by SPSS13.0software. Measurement data wereshowed by χ±s and were calculated by t test. Count data were calculated with χ2.Itmeaned statistic difference if P<0.05.Results Comparing to≥5years old groups,<5years of age group of childrenhave higher incidence in autumn and winte(r(72.13%vs54.79%), higher platelet count(287.86±90.12vs255.71±65.87), longer hospital stay(7.37±2.83vs5.57±2.62),higher pneumonia rate(27.87%vs6.85%) and mycoplasma infection rate(13.11%vs 2.74%). The group of children have more times of wheezing in the past year(6.03±2.40vs0.61±1.00), lower diagnosis rate of asthma(19.67%vs61.64%) and lowertreatment(25.00%vs71.11%)(p<0.05).Conclusions <5years of age group of children have stronger inflammatoryresponse, they are easy to suffer from pneumonia and mycoplasma infection, very few ofthem can be diagnosed timely and treated with poor adherence.
