Objective:This study was to find the incidence of phlegm-heat and blood stasis type insomnia among different types of insomnia based on syndrome differentiation. To observe the clinical efficacy of treating phlegm-heat and blood stasis type insomnia with the Chinese herbal formulae consist of Huanglian Wendan and Taohong Siwu Decoction. To explore what indications of this Chinese herbal formulae in treating phlegm-heat and blood stasis type insomnia. Then clinical therapeutic suggestions would be outlined.Methods:Reviewed and summarized my tutor’s clinical experience, phlegm-heat and blood stasis type insomnia patients diagnosed according to national standard of syndrome differentiation in Traditional Chinese Medicine, taken Huanglian Wendan and Taohong Siwu Decoction in this clinical observation. A therapeutic course lasted for28days, one dose per time, and twice a day. Recorded symptoms and signs Scores and PSQI grade before and after a therapeutic course.Results:1. There were68patients enrolled in this research, recovery occurred in10cases, marked efficacy in42cases, improvement in14cases, with a total efficacy rate of97.1%.2. Symptoms and signs Scores showed statistically significant differences(p<0.05) after a therapeutic course, the total score was11.59±2.79lower than that of before.3. There was a statistically significant differences(p<0.05) in PSQI grade, with the total score9.74±2.74lower after a therapeutic course.4. Review selected cases, the male to female ratio is1:2.09, the mean age is45.3±9.9years, and statistical data shows90%of patients are30to50years old.Conclusion: 1. The Chinese herbal formulae consist of Huanglian Wendan and Taohong Siwu Decoction has a definite therapeutic effect on phlegm-heat and blood stasis type insomnia according to this paper.2. The diet style and living environment are common pathogenic factors to phlegm-heat and blood stasis type insomnia.3. Middle aged women and the old are tend to be phlegm-heat and blood stasis type insomnia patients for their constitutional character and increased susceptibility to pathogenic factors.
