Object: Our aim was to evaluate bedside index for severity in acutepancreatitis (BISAP)in assessing the outcomes of acute pancreatitis (AP),toprovide clinical evidence for its further use. Methods: The BISAP score was retrospectively evaluated andanalyzed its correlation with the severity and fatality rate of AP among171cases of AP admitted to the first affilliated hospital of Chongqing medicaluniversity between Jan.2007and Jan.2008.The value of BISAP score inpredicting severity and complications were evaluated by the under area ofthe receiver opertating characteristic(ROC)curves. Results: There were101mild and70severe among171cases withacute pancreatitis. The mean scores of BISAP scoring system between MAPand SAP were significantly different(P<0.05),and its area under ROC curvewas0.86(95%confidence interval:0.80,0.92).BISAP score also had greatcorrelation with fatality and complications. BISAP score had a higherability in predicting systemic complications, but showed a lower ability inpredicting local complications compared with CTSI scoring system. Conclusion: BISAP is a simple and useful scoring system inpredicting the severity and prognosis of acute pancreatitis. Its riskstratification capacibility can be used to improve clinical care.
