| Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of depression in hospital staffs, and explore therelations between personality, self-efficacy, coping style and depression. Theconfirmative study was conducted to investigate the vulnerability and predictability fordepression. On the basis of empirical studies, to explore the theories and practical valuesof the genesis mechanism and preventive measures of hospital staffs’depression.Methods:433hospital staffs who worked in an East China hospital received theinvestigation. On the basis of preliminary survey about the situation of these staffs’stress,Prediction Scale of Stress Reaction Depression, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI),Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ), Coping Style Questionnaire (CSQ) andGeneral Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES) were used to evaluate the depressive symptoms andthe vulnerability factors of depression in hospital staffs.Results:1.In our research, there were27.02%of the hospital staffs with different levelsof depression, the ratio of mild, moderate and severe depression is16.63%,8.54%and1.85%.2.Significant differences of the incidence of depression were observed ingender, education level, marital status and physical condition(P<0.01), female, single, lower education level, poor physical condition staffs had a significantly higher incidencecompared to the other one.3.The total scores of BDI were significantly negativelycorrelated with the scores of intro-extraversion, general self-efficacy, problem soving andhelp seeking(P<0.01), but were significantly positively correlated with the scores ofneuroticism, psychoticism, self-blame, fantasy, avoidance and rationalization(P<0.01).4.Neuroticism, self-blame and problem soving could significantly predict the presenceof depression(P<0.01), neuroticism and self-blame could significantly positively predictthe existing of depression(P<0.01), problem soving could significantly negativelypredict the existing of depression(P<0.01), neuroticism plays the most important role onthe prediction, followed by self-blame and problem soving, the overall interpretationratio of the three variables on depression was46%.5.Different levels of hospital staffs’depression vulnerability had significant differences in intro-extraversion, neuroticism, psychoticism, general self-efficacy, problem soving, self-blame, fantasy, avoidance andrationalization(P<0.01).Conclusions:1. Stress response depression had a higher incidence in hospital staffs.Demographic variables affect depression. Female, single, lower education level and poor physical condition hospital staffs should become the focus groups of depressionprevention and management.2. The depression was associated with personality,self-efficiency and coping style.3. The three factors-neuroticism, self-blame and problemsolving can be used as the characteristic vulnerability factor of depression. They playedan important role on the prediction of depression.4. Prediction Scale of Stress ReactionDepression was efficient to distinguish depression susceptible hospital staffs, and can beused as the alternative tool that predicts hospital staffs’depression. |
